Your Job Is Out There – Part 1: Review Your Internal Options

With the challenging economic climate, finding a new role has become a full time job in itself. Our Where to find your new job blog in May offered some great advice on how to increase your chances of success, so we thought we’d expand on this to give your job search a boost.

Job SearchFirstly, have you reviewed your internal options?
If you love the company you work for, the people that you work with or the brand, product or service that you support, then explore a move within your existing employer.
Despite these hard financial times, businesses are keen to keep those employees they view as adding value in the short, medium and long term. Take advantage of this by following our 3 Must Do’s.

Review corporate career boards & job intranet sites: these offer a current window on existing and future resourcing needs. Top Tip: set up email alerts to keep you posted on internal options

Appraisal Schemes & Personal Development Programmes: these offer a face to face opportunity to discuss your next career step with your line/HR manager. Top Tip: prepare well before any review & show you’re serious about building a career  internally

Raise Your Profile: network with colleagues, peer groups and recruiters by joining sports & social clubs; getting involved with cross-functional meetings, presentations & projects or taking part in corporate charity, community & fun day events – you could take the lead and organise something yourself! Top Tip: review corporate & intranet sites or notice boards for up and coming events
